Please don't let me die in this guy's custody.
It's time to return to the land of the bizarre . Let me introduce you to Alan Bushey, religious leader and man of such great faith he believed the power of God and toilet could bring a man back from the dead.

Let's face it, when religious people become unhinged, the hypocrisy makes the story that much more entertaining.

From the Wisconsin State Journal...

The Necedah religious leader who pleaded no contest in February to hiding the body of an elderly follower on a toilet for weeks was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison.

...

Prosecutors said Bushey kept the body hidden so he could collect Middlesworth’s Social Security checks and annuities. Bushey’s attorney, Thomas Steinman, argued that Bushey thought God would bring Middlesworth back to life.

I'm not sure "crazy" does this story justice.

I've railed against the harms misguided religious beliefs can cause before, but this might be the first time I posted something that's out and out insane. It's likely this guy didn't actually believe God would resurrect the corpse, he just pretended to in order to collect some cash. Not sure what's worse, believing in something deranged or pretending to in order to justify something arguably worse.

The truly sad aspect of this story is that Bushey had two kids, 14 and 16, who were pretty shaken up by having to live with a corpse in their bathroom. Not to mention not being able to use their bathroom and having to deuce in a bucket for two weeks.

No word yet on God's decision to bring the corpse back to life. We'll keep an eye on this story.
