Dispatches From Idiot America
08/24/2009
If you want to get a good idea of what America is becoming? Read the comments left on websites.
The Dallas Morning News reported a tragic story about the death of Ronnie Kellar. Kellar was riding his bike when he was struck and killed by an intoxicated man named Vincent Riojas. Riojas was aware he ran Kellar down but did not report the accident. Instead, Riojas put a barely living Kellar in his back seat and hid the car. When the car was finally found, Kellar was dead.
Kellar's death was unnecessary and tragic. Riojas is being charged with manslaughter.
This, however, is not enough for some people. The the article on the Dallas Morning News website has pictures of both Kellar (white) and Riojas (not white). Uh oh. You know what that means. Let the broad generalizations and asinine comments begin!
"Riojas should be HUNG at sunrise tomorrow. Legal or illegal."
"Sunday is drunk day in Mexico and they brought it up here."
"a drunk driving mexican? no effin way! how extremely unusual and rare!"
"WTF? A Mexican driving drunk on Saturday night? Next you'll probably be telling me he didn't have insurance, his car inspection was fake, and his registration had expired."
Welcome to Idiot America.
Advocating the accused be hanged? The justice system established in the United States represents a core American principle - that every citizen is allowed the opportunity to a fair trail. Suggesting we skirt it and revert to mob justice shows a shocking level of ignorance about the America these people so passionately defend against the immigrants they claim poison it. I'm quite sure this irony is lost on the commenter who calls for the lynch mob.
The racism shown in this discussion is astounding. One horrific action has never in the history of the human race encapsulated an entire group of people. Yet, this bonehead apparently epitomizes every Mexican immigrant in the area. This simple way of thinking was supposed to go out of style with Segregation. That it hasn't, is telling.
It is plainly obvious to anybody paying attention that the United States is suffering from an epidemic of ignorance. The open nature of the Internet is revealing new areas of infection daily.
I see no cure in our near future.

- 997 days agoThis is a bad article, justice in america is all about punishment and keeping our family values. drunk drivers, i'm not racist so even if not mexican should be hung to do this. you probably want him to get off becasue you only care about freedom, not family values
- 997 days agoI disagree. This is not "a bad article" in my opinion. These comments are reminiscent of a Geraldo Rivera/Bill O'Reilly cat fight a while back. The issue then, as now, was drunk driving. Geraldo tried vehemently to keep on this track, but Bill O kept making the tragic death of a human being into an immigration/racial issue. I did have to chuckle at "Riojas should be HUNG at sunrise tomorrow. Legal or illegal." That sounds more like a personals ad than a condemnation of someone who is accused of a crime.
- 997 days agomickeiz: That you came to the conclusion I want Riojas to "get off" tells me you either didn't read the article or didn't understand it. At no point did I defend his actions, nor was this an attempt to do so. My point was that allowing this bonehead (which is what I call him in the article) to somehow represent all Mexican people makes about as much sense as claiming all Internet users whose names start with "mic" are illiterate buffoons based on what you just said. People should be judged as individuals, not as members of a conglomerate and in criminal matters people should be judged by the justice system - not by mob rule.
- 996 days agoNotice how In the supremely sick mind of a conservative, punishment and hangings are a good thing he's somehow related to family values. I would guess torture is another Mickeiz would happily approve of as well as spying on Americans. Freedom though, not so much.
