Make a Point or Go Away
09/17/2009
Doug Powers. So very insightful.
Conservative columnist Doug Powers argues that filmmaker Micheal Moore..."is no better qualified a spokesman for what direction our health care system should take and how private sector business should be managed than a morbidly obese slob built like a 400-pound stack of pancakes who has made millions of dollars bashing capitalism."
Good point, Mr. Powers. Unfortunately you failed to say anything concrete about Mr. Moore's ideals, political opinions or views on capitalism. Your lack of details could allow somebody to steal your insight and use it on, say, somebody you like.
I'll try...
"There is no better qualified a spokesman for what direction our health care system should take and how private sector business should be managed than a morbidly obese slob built like a 400-pound stack of pancakes who has made millions of dollars bashing
Of course, I'm talking about Rush Limbaugh.
Doug, if I can reverse the meaning of your 43 word argument by changing just one word, then your argument was bullshit to begin with. In your next article, you might as well just leave out all the flair and write "Obama Hitler socialism fear Muslim liberal bad angry hate". You'll save your readers time.

- 973 days agoActually it is. If you want to be able to make a proper argument saying that Michael Moore is incapable of talking about the healthcare system, you do not simply talk about his weight. Bring up facts, reasons you disagree with his ideas, support your evidence. That is what an argument is. Simply name-calling, fear-mongering, and shouting "You Lie" during a speech do get attention, but they are not smart, educated ways to debate, and do nothing to prove your point.
- 973 days agoYour argument fails due to the fact that Rush Limbaugh has exploited our current health care in the past; I am of course referring to his prescription fraud shenanigans 3(?) years ago. Michael Moore is a hypocrite, and a fat one to boot. Gotta love that money!
ALSO - Of course the dude doesnt mention anything about his ideals or political opinions, thats NOT THE FUCKING POINT! He is a capitalist, and where do you draw the line with the involvement of capitalist principles in our society? - 973 days agoI want to acknowledge hacksoncode and the very good point he made. hacksoncode correctly points out that the ability to effortlessly alter a statement doesn't make the original statement wrong. By carelessly using the word "bullshit", I implied that. And that was wrong.
My goal was to point out that relying solely on insults can be detrimental to an argument especially when those kinds of arguments can easily be turned around.
After reading hacksoncode's comment and giving this article the thought it originally deserved, I believe readers would have understood my point had I left out the last paragraph altogether. Point conceded. hacksoncode: Thanks for challenging me. - 973 days agosqualltenchu--"Of course the dude doesnt mention anything about his ideals or political opinions, thats NOT THE FUCKING POINT!" Actually, that IS THE FUCKING POINT! LOL The entire shame is that he said nothing of substance, just rude comments about Michael Moore's appearance.
- 973 days agoBesides...anyone who falls back on arguments about "capitalist principles" will surely mention "the market" soon enough. I smell a neocon fucktard trying to blend in with the progressives...
- 973 days agoIt's called an Ad Hominem argument <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem> and it is one of the most well know logical fallacies (if you're an egg-head who knows about things like logical fallacies ;). And, it's actually entirely accurate to label this line of reasoning "bullshit" <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullshit#.22Bullshit.22_in_philosophy> as it is neither true nor false but just bullshit.
- 973 days agoMichael Moore is a big fat idiot... Pres Obama is a socialist... Al Franken is NOT funny... Nancy Pelosi is on her way out... Reagan was the one of the best presidents ever... Carter is and will always be the WORST PRESIDENT EVER...
- 972 days agoIntershame, I think your mistake was that you tried to set up categorical law that was too broad.
- 970 days ago"Obama Hitler socialism fear Muslim liberal bad angry hate". Don't forget "communism fascism marxism Osama"
