Erick Erickson
In the article Does This Mean Newsweek Stands in For the Nazis? RedState.com Editor-in-Chief Erick Erickson makes a logic reach so absurd, it's a wonder he didn't pull a muscle while typing it. Apparently, Newsweek magazine is behaving like Nazis because their headline about Sarah Palin is like a song in a musical... OK, it actually pains me to attempt to summarize Erickson's insanity, so I'll just re-post it:
...Newsweek is declaring war on Sarah Palin. The magazine that has given up all pretense of objective news coverage and now caters to an ever shrinking Upper West Side Elite is making Palin the cover of Newsweek with the title "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Sarah?" with the subheading "she’s bad news for the GOP — and everyone else too."At first, I thought this was a joke. Unfortunately, he's not kidding. It's even more unfortunate that over 300,000 people read his rubbish every month.
There’s just one problem.
The title comes from "The Sound of Music" and the song "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"
Maria, you see, was the hero and protagonist of the musical and, later, the movie.
And Maria was pursued by the Nazis.
Hmmmm . . . so if Palin is Maria and Newsweek is out to get her, perhaps Newsweeks’s red, black, and white masthead is appropriate.
If you're familiar with Erickson's website redstate.com, you're probably aware he has a history of not only trying to find a story where there is none, but doing so in a vulgar and irresponsible way. In 2008, he attempted to push the rumor that President Obama was molested writing
"The National Enquirer now suggests Barack Obama had an underage, gay affair with a pedophile"Let's ignore the fact Erickson used the National Enquirer as his source and focus on the fact there was not even a glimmer of proof this accusation was true. In an act of cowardice, Erickson has removed that article from redstate.com. Luckily for us, Google still has a cache of it.
Want more examples of Erickson's imbecility? How about his take on President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize?
"I did not realize the Nobel Peace Prize had an affirmative action quota"Classy. It also seems that Erickson has an obsession with Nazi comparisons having once likened the spokeswoman for the White House Health Reform Office to Nazi Reichsminister of Propaganda tweeting
"Linda Douglass really is the Joseph Goebbels of the White House Health Care shop"Of course, Goebbels led the effort to justify Nazi atrocities, which included the murder of 6 million Jews. And just when you think Erickson can't get much more shameful, you learn that he once made this sophomoric assessment of Supreme Court Judge Souter:
"The nation loses the only goat fucking child molester to ever serve on the Supreme Court in David Souter's retirement"That Erick Erickson is able to earn a living as a journalist demonstrates perfectly the dwindling standards of discourse in the political world. That he has influence, is disturbing.
