Howard Dean and Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia held a health care reform town hall the other night and, naturally, the protesters came out in force. Take a look at this picture posted by FreedomWorks blogger "nswift"...

Hmm.

Article 1 Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution reads...

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States"

I'm pretty sure that if the "general welfare" of the country is being threatened by a industry as broken as health insurance, it's well within the government's constiutional rights to act. This protester must also believe social security to be unconstitutional as Article 1 Section 8 says nothing of providing financial assistance to retirees.

If these are the arguments the opposition is compelled to make, they must be out of good ones.
