It is not a good year to be an animal in Miami.

Another horse was found mutilated and killed over the weekend in Southwest Miami-Dade, apparently the latest victim of amateur butchers only interested in the animal's meat.

The horse was found tied to a tree and dismembered along 212th Ave., the latest in over a dozen horse killings in the area in the past few months.

You might be wondering why anybody would want to slaughter a horse. A deep seated hatred of horses? Maybe the horse killer is a psychopath like fellow Miamian Tyler Weinman. Maybe the person really, really hated Black Beauty. Well I hated Black Beauty too, but I'm not out killing horses. Alas, no, none of these are the reasons for the serial murdering of Miami horses. The real motivation behind these crimes is, not shockingly - money.

The butchers are able to take the meat from the horse and sell it on the black market. The meat winds up in countries where horse meat is a delicacy.

This is the 17th horse to be slaughtered in the county since January. We'll be keeping an eye on this story to see how it progresses.
