Once again, the gay community is denied their equality.

From the AP...
New York lawmakers rejected a bill Wednesday that would have made their state the sixth to allow gay marriage, disheartening advocates stung by a similar decision Maine voters made last month.
Standing in the way of the legislation was Democrat Ruben Diaz who, in this blogger's view, is a disgrace to progressive ideals.
During debate, Sen. Ruben Diaz, a conservative minister from the Bronx, led the mostly Republican opposition.

"If you put this issue before the voters, the voters will reject it," Diaz said. "Let the people decide."
Diaz is well aware that, if put to a vote, the people will reject gay marriage (what this says about the general population is an entirely different article). Diaz should also know that what's popular isn't always what's right. Apparently this lesson we learn in youth can be conveniently cast aside in order to protect our threatened adulthood prejudices.

Ruben Diaz seen here arguing that god hates fags.
Had Diaz's approach of "let the people decide" been implemented during the civil rights movement, he'd have to eat off of a segregated countertops, sit in the back of the bus and drink from "colored" water fountains when he travels to Alabama.

Much like the civil right movement, it seems inevitable that the gay community will eventually win their equality. Obstructionists like Ruben Diaz may have won this battle, but history tells us they'll lose the war.

In the meantime, we can shame the shit out of them.
