Satanism - Creepy
Why does Christianity get a free pass? More on that in a second, but first a little background... On May 27th, 2009 Tracy Ocasio left the TAP Room Bar around 1:30am and was never seen again. Orlando TV station WESH has been following the case from the beginning. Soon after Ocasio's disappearance, James Hataway was identified as a person of interest. Not long after that, WESH TV's website posted a follow-up story about James Hataway's interests and how they might have influenced his actions.
WESH.com reports...
Police said they learned on Thursday that the only person of interest in the case of missing woman Tracy Ocasio has expressed interest in things like serial murders, vampires and cannibalism.
[...]
Investigators also removed items having to do with the dark arts -- generally associated with Satanism and witchcraft.
I understand the relevance of "serial murders", but satanism and witchcraft? Are those two factors any more relevant than Christianity, Islam or FSM worship?
What are the chances we ever see this line in print...
"Investigators also removed items having to do with Christianity -- generally associated with genocide and crucifixion."
Christianity's Hell - Just as Creepy
Is there any doubt that the majority of criminals in the United States were Christians when the committed their crimes? Yet the influence that Christian teachings might have had on these criminals is never brought up. Christianity gets a free pass. It's not difficult understand why this is - You don't criticize the belief system shared by 78% of the population if you expect to keep your readers (yes, I realize the irony of this article). The bible is filled with passages able to justify appalling acts.
Perhaps the next time a lunatic is brought into custody for, say, murdering his family, WESH can ask the local authorities if they found in bible in his house. If so, they might be able to tie his actions to Isaiah 13:16... "Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished."
James Hataway appears to be a very disturbed individual. Whether he studies Satanism, Christianity, Islam, physics, hypnotherapy or game show theory, it's certain he'd still be a little batshit. To this point, maybe it's time the press consider fanatic religious beliefs are a symptom of neurosis and not the cause.
