NBC's The Wanted
07/20/2009
I'm 20 minutes into NBC's new docudrama-news hybrid show "The Wanted" and holy shit is it terrible.
NY Daily News describes the show as "A group of private individuals concerned about the threat of international terrorism join forces to hunt down persons known to be part of terrorist organizations or movements."
Cool premise, but watching the show's creators attempt to stretch the content of a 3 minute news report into 48 minutes of over-produced, hyper-dramatized bloat with cringe inducing acting performances is WAY too much to handle. When filmmakers resort to long transition shots of birds, children running with kites, sunsets, buildings... that's about the time I throw in the towel. The first 20 minutes of "The Wanted" is exactly what Terrence Malick's epic flop "The Thin Red Line" would have been like had it been made with a $50,000 budget and porn actors.
Just awful.
